Man on the moon

In 1969 I was a space mad 11 year old. I kept a scrapbook of newspaper cuttings and various publications as the events unfolded. Of course by ‘I kept a scrapbook’ I mean I do still have it 😀 so I think now would be a good time to get it online. So over the next few days I’ll scan the articles and photos and share some of them on social media, trying to match up dates of publication with the anniversary dates 50 years on. This was a publication from the Daily Mirror, it cost three shillings and sixpence and outlined what was going to happen in the Apollo 11 mission as well as documenting the previous spaceflights.

50 year old scrapbook

Continuing my scrapbook postings of the 1969 Apollo 11 moon landing. Apologies in advance for the sometimes faded newsprint and perhaps strange mixture of of newsworthy items. The curation is courtesy of an 11 year old me and probably limited by the newspapers that my parents bought at the time!

I was a SPaceCraft Commander

In 1969 I had a Spacecraft Commander’s Briefing Kit. Touchdown to the Moon: Take the first steps in an alien world. I loved it. There was a fold out astronaut pressure suit display that built up in three layers, a flight path map with a ’miniaturised’ Apollo spacecraft so you could practise manoeuvres 🚀 and loads of very official looking briefing notes.

Lift Off! Lift Off!

day 4 apollo:saturn.JPG

Today’s episode of the space adventures of eleven year old me is item 2 from my briefing pack showing how all the stages fitted together. I did build the Saturn V Airfix model too but sadly that’s not survived the past 50 years.
